Block heater cord

So, do all GM engineers live in Southern California?

Just picked up a 2014 Sierra All Terrain SLT Crew 4x4 and there is NOWHERE to feed the block heater plug to the front of the grill...

Why oh why is there no dedicated plug assembly for the block heater tucked nicely just behind the grill...

$50,000 truck...these must be the same guys that set it up so that I have to take off the exhaust on my sled to change the plugs...engineers...

Here's a solution for you and how I fixed my block heater cord/connector.

Hardwired it in using a marine grade waterproof 110 vlt. outlet by mounting it into the fog light lamp housing on my 2014 K1500 Sierra Denali.......A clean and neat fit/finish it works perfect, does not take away from the appearance and all I need to do is flip the cap and plug it in to an extension cord. Purchased the marine plug outlet off of Amazon.com

When not in use, the plug outlet is hardly visible.....click on the photos to enlarge/view. Plenty of clearance for a ext. cord.....

Here is a link to the one I purchased from Amazon for $20. Its heavy duty, waterproof and was easy to do....

That looks freaking awesome! I wish I was more comfortable doing things like that on my own.

If ya go that far , get an auto eject plug for an emergency vehicle , pops out while cranking , works awesome !!!!!

Not for me. I am pleased with what I have, it was easy to install, cheap enough and works just fine.

Thank you. Awesome solution. That is how these trucks should come factory if it has a block heater. Nice job!

Is the block heater part of a specific package or does it come standard on a certain level?

The block heater is a Stand alone option on all trim levels.

$90 part (GM OE Block heater).

I had the dealer in Texas throw it in to include installation when I was making my deal as I planned to ship the truck to Alaska where I use it now, hence the desire for a block heater. After I got the truck, I installed the marine plug adapter myself as to eliminate the dangling heater cord.

Great idea. Thanks.

Be installing once it warms up a bit.

Without wind -30c / with wind -42c.
