Cargo Light via Fob

Recommended Posts

I have seen a couple of ideas like http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/164156-cargo-lights-on-with-reverse-lights/ or wiring a switch through the cab to the bed, but I have not seen anything as elegant as using the puddle light.

The puddle light signal comes on when ambient is dark enough, probably the only time you will need light in the box (unless you have a cover, then just use the tail light)

Puddle light is also disabled when the keys are in the run position, pretty much solves the glare problem if you were backing up. I have a canopy and I manually tapped the dome light in the canopy to the cargo light power, so backing up light signal will not do for me.

This is simple and allows you to light up the box as it is more like a external lighting. Cab lights are different as they only light up if the doors are opened.

When the box light is turned on by remote, the switch at the center console also lights up, pressing it does nothing, but it toggles the stats when the puddle signal is off. Say you unlock, and quickly press the cargo light switch, light remains on even when puddle light times out.

I have attached the diagram, it is the grey cable connector under the driver's seat, pin 8 (the diagram shows as if you are looking at the connector's end)

Here is the finished wiring, one diode

If you were ever looking for a light signal, try turning it on, unplug the cables one by one and see which one will turn it off again. This narrows down the area to work with

I would like to thank @spurshot on assisting me with this project, kudos to him!
