iPod Classic + 2015... any better than 2014?

So I've had my 2015 1500 Sierra SLT CCSB for a little over a week and frickin' LOVE THIS THING.

One of the draws to it is all the technology. Love all the USB ports and extra connectivity, etc.

Doing some reading and Googling, looks like folks have issues with the 2014's and iPods. I can't find anything specific to 2015 but it seems it's not much better with mine, hoping maybe somebody has some tips.

I have 2 iPods - a 10 year old 60gb, and a fairly recent 160gb.

The 60gb unit seems to have a 50/50 shot of being recognized when I start the truck. If it starts working, then so long as I leave it on "iPod", it seems to ALWAYS work. (Meaning, if I shut the truck off while playing the iPod, the next time I get in the truck, the iPod seems to work just fine). But if I shut the truck off while listening to the radio, the next time I start it, I may or may not be able to get the iPod to work.

Figuring it was related to the fact that the 60gb is pretty old and slow (had it 10 years!), plus knowing when I use it in my other car with an Alpine deck (w/iPod cable) it sometimes doesn't "pick up", I picked up a "7th gen" 160gb Classic used from a local GameStop. Loaded it up with music, plugged it in... and it gets recognized every time (woo-hoo!) However - the track names don't update? First song it plays, it works fine, then when that song ends and it moves to the next track, the display never changes. Still says the first song (artist, album art, etc) and the time scale stays the same for the previous song. If I physically select "next track", then the song/artist/art updates... but once that song finishes, it never updates again.

I believe I read that the system somehow chokes when reading over 8,000 songs? I have 8,400 on my iPod so that might be it... I'm working on hacking that list down to get under 8k.

Anybody have issues, get the song list down below 8k, and suddenly everything worked great?

Update.... :(

Can't get the 160gb iPod to work right. Recognizes it but won't update songs when one song ends. Noticed this morning on the way in that it does that same thing with a USB thumbdrive I put in, too.

Back to just using my original 10 y/o 60gb iPod. Seems to work the best once it works. Kind of a pain.... seems these issues aren't iPod specific. :(

I have a very old Ipod, it works fine in my 14. I do have to unplug it to shut it off, I think its the Ipod not the truck.

I started having trouble with my 10 year old iPod classic on my '14 so I gave up and got an SD card and loaded all of music onto it and retired the iPod.

I've had my 2014 1500 Sierra SLT about five months and have found the Infotainment System to be very finicky.

I have three generation 6 iPods, one original version and two later versions, sometimes referred to as generation 6.5 or 7, and I cannot get any of them to work.

I also have two generation 5.5 iPods that do work.......most of the time. I have over 20,000 songs on each of these and I have not experienced the problem that you have. According to support and the manual, the system is supposed to handle up to 100,000 songs.

I recently exported some songs to a 64GB SanDisk Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive, and am having mostly favorable results.

I have an older (maybe 8 years) iPod 30 GB. Seems to work fine unless it's cold outside. Since I leave the iPod in the truck console it get's exposed to cold weather in the winter. It can take awhile to recognize it until it warms up. I assume this issue is due to the hard drive in the iPod. No problems with this in the summer time.

Yeah, overall the system just seems flaky.

The USB drive started working fine again (updating track names by itself, like it should, when it switched to the next track). And I can't get my old 60gb iPod talking to the truck anymore. It shows up in the Media menu in the dash cluster, but won't pull up any songs or play anything.

I guess for now I'll just keep an iPod and the USB drive in the truck at all times. One of them is bound to work. Otherwise I guess I have XM....
