Truck Comparisons Rarely Matched Properly

I spend a lot of time just researching vehicles in general as a hobby and I very rarely come across comparison test where muscle cars or trucks are fairly compared. They almost always have them mismatched by way of trim level or drive train. This includes rear end gear ratios. More so with trucks because of the usually 3 engine and ratio options where muscle cars (not special or limited editions) usually have only 2.

Without the ratios most performance tests are useless. Everyone has the engine info though. Case in point...the new F-150. I want to compare it to a 2015 GM. But all the test I see have the 2014 with either a 6.2 or a 2015 with 5.3.

Apples to apples are hard to find.

Low, Mid, or top engine and highway, regular, or towing gears.....and the same year at least!

I have yet to see a 6.2 max tow 8-speed vs 3.5 ecoboost max tow. And the mpg while towing.

even in the consumer report test they leave out the gear ratio and wonder what gets low gas mileage.....because you have a low geared vehicle testing with a high geared vehicle!! Or a mid engine option compared to a top option engine.

Am I the only one that is aggravated with this?

I read them all the time, in Car and Driver Ive seen the 2014 5.3 in the GMC 0-60 7.2 and in the Chevy 6.7. Its the different gear ratio. Ive seen the 6.2 from 14.7 to 13.5 in the 1/4 mile again gear ratio. Just saw the 4.3 in a road test do quarter mile in 15.7 on E85, the same as the 5.3 on gas with the 3.08 gear. So you right apples to apple would be nice, aggravating yes.
