Airaid question

on the airaid kit does the airbox cover up the factory hole to the fender? If so is there a reason they do this? Any reason not to cut a hole in the box to open this up?

No, it feeds from the stock location and a snorkel drops down under the stock location to pick up from there as well.

I do, but I was going off of my memory from 13 months ago. I know it has a snorkel that drops down into the area below the stock airbox.

yup the airaid box has a long snorkel out the bottom and an opening out the "front" behind the headlight. However, the factory port to the fenderwell is blocked off. Wondering why? and if there is any reasons against opening it up?

In addition to the 'long snorkel out the bottom and an opening out the "front" behind the headlight' it looks like incoming air can also reach the filter over the top of the Airaid box since the hood seal doesn't go all the way around.

 

Airaid has probably determined that any more air than that would be redundant.

 

I would be interested to see someone put lipstick on the seal and slam the hood to see how much contact you're actually getting. It looks like it only seals about half the way around.

I installed mine tonight and also noticed this, and I'm sure with an aftermarket CAI like these all the manufacturers will have a little air from the engine bay overall I like it tho and am pleased
