New truck question.

I recently purchased a new 2014 1500 crew and after the first 1000 miles the transmission just started hunt for gears on slow starts. After reading the some of the issues. I was wondering if anybody's actually got better the more they drove them? I would hate to cry wolf at my dealer if it will smooth out. I do have to take it back for a recall for the transfer case already so I if there's no possible way it'll clear up I'll complain but would rather not.

Let the turd learn your ways first before anything else! Not sure how long it will take exactly but maybe another 1k?

I was thinking it's a little early to tell. After driving around this afternoon I'm pretty sure some of it's just me being a little too easy on it. Being more aggressive on the pedal seems to help.

Its ...probably... Normal. I bet its the truck going into V4 and you're thinking its the tranny. The truck will go into v4 upon a slow acceleration and almost feels like the tranny is shifting. Put your truck into Manual 5 and drive it and i bet you'll drive around in M5 all the time. I cant stand the AFM and that's what i do.

8,700 miles on mine as of today and it's just as bad as day one. I'm guessing the ones who say their truck has learned are just getting used to the way the truck drives. Either that or mine is special needs!

In short , no it won't go away.

Slow, crawling driving around 10-20 mph is by the worst I have ever experienced.

The confusion of when to shift , the jolts etc is super annoying. Not to forget the wonderful slip yoke back breaking gm ways.

( again , that's when your moving around slowly )

My dealer says its normal , and I say thank god this truck is a lease

This is not something I ever want to own.

The fly by wire system in these trucks clearly lack either correct programming

Or computers that are not up to the task. Since tuners are able to make them work

correctly I have to go with programming. I still like the truck it beats the heck

out of the 2008 crew I traded in for it. That truck had me so mad I wanted to sell everything I owned with a bowtie on it. Good thing for gm their competitors are having the same troubles .

i'm not exactly sure where it smother out, but somewhere in the 3,500 mile range mine smoothed out a bunch.

i think most people will find the clunky changes are 80% driving style and adapting to the new power train and maybe ~20% the truck breaking in.

At 29k miles the 6 spd trans still hunts for gearing/jumps and shifts funny. Some say that programming cures it? I would not know if it does or not as I have not ever had a tune done. I can tell you it is about the same as the 2009 GMC Sierra 5.3 with 6spd that I had previously drove it never got better over the 85k miles. I might consider a tune if I knew for sure that it would make a great improvement but it kind of sounds like snake oil to me...... I have seen a lot of people that pay out cash for stuff that is only mediocre and then simply rave on it to try to justify throwing their money away LOL....oh crap did I type that out loud sorry for that hahahahaha
