I've always bought the heavy black rubber mats sold by my camper dealer. I have no idea what brand they are. Keep in mind that anything you add to the tailgate will cause the tailgate to drop harder.

I ordered my heavy rubber mat from my local speed shop, and you are correct the tailgate mat does drop your tailgate faster, and there isn't anyway to adjust it
