Aftermarket Fuel Injector Spider

I'd like to know if any of the techs have any experience with this part or part manufacturer:

It's made by Standard Motor Products and appears to be made in the US. The OEM part, which I know will work sells for about $75.00 more. This is for my son's S10. It has 205,000 miles on it. I have a CEL with a P0304 code. I'll check compression this weekend. The fuel injector spider that is in it came from the factory and from what I have read they tend to have the same symptoms my son's truck has. The object is to keep the truck going for another year or so until he is out of college and can afford to buy something newer. If I can depend on the Standard Motor Products and save a few bucks, and not have to do the repair again in 6 months, I'll gladly save $75.00.

 

On another note, I just replaced his intake manifold gasket (4.3L) and attempted to replace the timing chain cover to stop a pretty big oil leak. I tried to do the timing chain cover twice, without replacing the oil pan gasket and had no luck. So, this weekend I'm pulling the engine, dropping the pan and doing it right. Oh what fun. I have not done too much to it, the S10 has been a rock solid little truck. The other major repair item that I have done to it was rebuild the front end, that is not really a failure, just a lot of wear and tear from a teenage/college driver.

 

Any advice or feedback on the fuel injector spider would be most appreciated.

Oh how I hate that spider!! I go into an angry frenzy, cursing GM, whenever I see or hear about one .... Another engineering marvel ...

 

 

I don't have any experience with that particular brand of spider, although Standard's other products seem to be fairly well built. Have a few of their parts on our '86 Grand Marquis & '89 S10 Blazer (which I bought because the failing spider on our '00 Jimmy was the last straw, and I parted the thing out) - they seem to be holding up fine so far.

 

That spider is a POS design anyway, so I can't see it being any worse built by another manufacturer. Just my .02 ...
