No start-No crank

I am at a loss, I have been following the starting system schematic. I have power at the the crank voltage and starter relay pins at the PCM. When I turn they key to "Start" all that happens is the relay clicks. Leads me to think PNP switch or starter went bad. Against my thoughts I pulled the starter to have it tested, but I need to wait for a ride. I really don't want to throw parts at it being that I don't have money to burn. When I put a test light on the starter relay pin at PCM with PCM disconnected and key on, it cranked. Same condition, PCM Disconnected, put the test light on the crank voltage pin and turned the key to "Start" and it lit up. I think with the starter relay I was just bypassing everything and thats why it cranked.

Any ideas? No codes present and this is draining every bit of drive I have to figure out what it is now, but I need it running.

What leads me to think it isnt the BCM is i have power all they way to the relay after i turn the key. BCM isnt really part of the starting circuit.

Thats the next step since no one is home so i cant get a ride to a parts store

Im pretty damn sure its the starter. I still want a minimum wage parts salesman to test it. I couldnt get it to push the shaft out

What terminals did you apply power to when you tried to get the drive to move outwards to engage? It is always better to start with basics before heading to ECM and/or BCM. Starter should have power on the big wire at all times, with power applied to the solenoid wire when key is moved to start position. Does any of that happen?

And as with any wiring/power issues, first thing to do is clean and tighten all battery connections, in addition to all battery cable connections at the other ends. Just because it is tight does not mean it is good.

Had power on the big post and jumped amall post. So nothing

That leaves at least two things to check. Is there ever power on the small lead? Take the small lead wire off, then jump the big wire to the small terminal that the small lead was attached to. Engine should crank at this point, not start, but should crank over. If still no crank, clean both ends of ground cable, and verify that the ground cable is not corroded up inside the terminal crimp. Common on the crap aluminum coated cables we seem to be getting now.

Starter is out and tried it and the solenoid doesnt even pop

Everything but the BCM is checked. Thats the last thing i will do because i dont want to putnit in a shop. Already been without for 3 days because the weekend.

It's alive. Put in a $50 junkyard starter from an 06 Flex 5.3 sierra. Its a temporary think til april when i can afford a fresh delco unit.
