Changing bulbs on headlights on 2011

Am I missing something. I wanted to put Silver Star Ultra's in my 2011 Sierra 2500 today. When I looked in owners manual it said to do passenger side I had to remove air cleaner box. So I figured I do that side first and get it over with. Passenger side was a breeze. We'll get to driver side and no way to get in and reach the bulbs.i know I have short fat fingers but Jeez. I ended up removing the tray for second battery and pushing bootle for windshield washer fluid out of the way.

To top it off the wires were very short.

Very disappointed in the engineering. I'd hate to have to change one on the road. I had an 06 avalanche which was a breeze pull 2 pins and headlight assembly came out.

You did nothing wrong. A bunch of GM shitheads designed it.

Thanks, I thought maybe it was just me. I hope the engineer that signed off on that design spends all of eternity having to change the drivers side bulbs in inclement weather.

Just got to try them tonite. Much whiter so a nicer light. I just purchased the truck and it has been leveled. I don't think whoever did it readjusted the lights as they seem high. Also I'm not sure if it's factory but my low beams stay on with high beams on, which lights the road pretty nice. I live in a very rural area and need all the light I can get.

That's how mine is. Top is low beam and all 4 are on on high beam so must be oem. On my 06 Avalanche and 00 Yukon XL they would switch from one to the other when going from low to high

Also kinda weird - on my 04 25 HD the truck had the headlight High / Low opposite of the 04 Avalanche set up ...

Looks like 04 2500 HD has almost same headlights as an Avalanche. Outside low beam and inside highs. My Avy when lows on only outside on, then highs only inside on. I know there is a mod to add some diodes to fuse box so both on and can even add fog lamps if desired.
