2500hd exhaust questions

I have a 04 2500hd with a stock exhaust, it seems it goes from dual into the muffler and a single out. I'm looking for a deep sounding exhaust with little to no cab drone.

Now would it make sense just to change the muffler and add a peice of piping and re use the stock exhaust after the muffler? I'm looking to do this the right way but as cheap as possible

Thanks guys

Stock exhaust is should be dual inlet, dual offset outlet out of the muffler and y piped into a single tailpipe. Unless its already been replaced.

JBA Headers makes a great kit that true duals the truck from the front of the muffler back. Had it on my 2006 HD reg cab, no drone, almost stock on the inside cruising, and when you got on it, it roared.

Part number 40-3030 http://www.jbaheaders.com/detail_exhaustV.asp?id=40-3030

Auto Anything had them for just under $600 a few years ago.

Thanks a lot man, this is very helpful but do you know if the exhaust goes 3" before the muffler than 3.5" after the muffler? It's way to cold to do measuring today:/

The stock should be 3" inlet dual, 3" outlet dual, and the tailpipe should be 3.5". If you go with just the muffler, a shop can take a dual inlet muffler, with a 3.5" outlet and put some pipe in to attach it to the stock tailpipe. If you go that route, a longer bodied muffler will cut the drone.

These guys make direct stock muffler replacements. The 2505 model would be probably what you are looking for per their chart at the bottom of their page. 2505 is the moderate sound, 2506 is mild sound, the 2500 is stock.

You might want to check out the Magna Flo 12469 .....18 inch, duel 3inch inlets. w/duel 2.5 inch outlets. This is what I used. Nice deep tone when you stick your foot into it. Mellows out while cruis'n down the road.. Keep in mind that the 6.0 likes some back pressure. And seems to be very happy with 2.25 outlets... Going to big will cause a loss of low end.. Lots of info on this topic in regards og the 6.0 exhaust....
