tire wear

I just got brand new tires on my 1996 k1500. i love the tires and they seem to be great. they are good year wrangler duratrac 31x10.50x15. I rarely work my truck its mostly a everyday driver, and the heaviest i usually pull with it when i do pull with it is a 4wheeler trailer/snowmobile trailer with one or two machines on it or my dirtbike in the back and thats about it.

I have driven the tires maybe 50 miles if that and i noticed that the outside of my tires were clean and the insides were dirty but only on the rear tires. the tires have 35psi in them and maximum is 50 psi. from my understanding that means they are overinflated.

the only thing i can think of is that it has to do something with the bed of my truck being lighter. but can anyone help me with this? thanks

That is a interesting read I never knew that. But would it do that to the inside of the tire tread and not the outside of like the first half inch or inch. It was just like it was overinflated.

I let some air out of the tires and dropped them to 30 psi and now the tire is pretty much all making contact. Is that still a safe pressure? I might even drop them to 28 if it's safe. The outside is touching but it looks like just barely. so I'm not sure if it's because they got rounded some and will take just a little more time to get back even,or if it needs to be dropped just a hair more. I'll keep an eye on it though.

Keep in mind, the Duratrac is a winter tire, it carries the snow flake rating. This means it is made from a rubber compound that is quite a bit softer than a regular all terrain tire. The lower the pressure, the faster these tires will wear, and they will wear in a weird way, cupping and such.

Duratracs are very fussy about proper PSI and regular rotations if you want to get the maximum mileage out of them.

that makes sense. on another forum someone was saying that they might just need to be broke in too. I called the people that put the tires on and they want me to bring it in tomorrow so i will see what they say and let you guys know. thanks

The people said that it should be fine, but to keep an eye on them and also to keep them rotated when they need to be. so i guess ill just do that
