Modify stock air intake on 07 silverado

I like the sound of a cold air intake even though realistically it doesn't make much diff in terms of performance gains. Instead of spending nearly $300 on a new cold air intake I was wondering if I just cut the large baffles off- the large circular tube hanging down off the back and the square or rectangle shaped one off the front and sealed up these holes and installed a new K&N air filter would it sound like a cold air intake. The stock tube is smaller in diameter than the one on a real K&N cold air I take but just wondering if I cut the baffles off or whatever they are would I get a better sound than the stock sound.

I have a the K&N on my truck and my son likes the sound of it and wanted one but I was thinking I could achieve almost the same result by doing it myself like I was mentioning in my early post

Airaid MIT is cheaper and requires almost no work. Or get a universal one and cone filter

That's the best option when it comes to solving the restriction issue with the OEM air intake tubes.

The OEM air box is actually a "cold air intake" taking air from the wheel well, unlike most aftermarket systems that cost hundreds of dollars. Most of them are wide open and perform worse than the factory box. Get yourself an AirAid MIT and call it a day.

I have the MIT and added an aftermarket drop in dry filter. Very happy with the results

Best part of MIT is you can take it off and put stock back on when you sell it. Its just the right amount of sound too without the drone exhausts tend to have...
