how do you make sure to get a certain front axle when you order?

Recommended Posts

was looking on one of the snow plow sites to see what plow i can fit on the truck i want, and it seems there are 4 different front ends that change the FGAWR. how do can i know which one i will get when i option the truck out?

looking at the 15 GMC 2500 Denali with plow prep package and z71 off road.

Only one front axle is installed on a the GM HD trucks, the difference is in the torsion bars, snow plow prep, 2500/3500, gas/diesel, and cab/bed configurations all get differnt/stiffer torsion bars.

The problem I found was I ordered a 3500 crew w/snow plow prep and it was so stiff it sucked. After turning up the torsion bars any of the different torsion bars will hold any plow you want just fine, only difference is how stiff the front end is.

I believe you will have the best/biggest front weight rating at 6,000lbs in that configuration.

Keep in mind you will loose the sliding rear window and garage door openers w/snow plow prep.

If you are going to install a Boss plow you will have to crank the torsion bars way up and install the mount 2 holes down the clear the bumper so you don't have to cut it, the front valance comes off.

If you are going gas Denali, Crew Cab Standard Box, with VYU plow prep you will have a FGAWR of 5200lbs. Duramax will be a FGAWR of 6000lbs. 1 ton is 5600lbs gas, 6000lbs diesel. It drops the rear sliding window and home remote. If you want a sunroof, you will lose plow prep.

Per the GM VYU spec sheet, they allow for a 725lbs plow and 100lbs truck side gear on Denali crew gas, and 775lbs plow, 100lbs truck side gear on Denali crew diesel. If you want more room for a bigger plow, the 1 ton SRW Denali gas is good for 1000lbs plow, 100lbs truck side gear, and diesel is good for 800lbs plow, 100lbs truck side gear.

Maximum plow weights based on a vehicle with average manufacturer option content and 150lbs each for

driver and one additional front seat occupant. Additional equipment and occupants can reduce maximum

plow weight.

Rear compensating weight may be required to maintain front axle weight below 65% of total vehicle weight

when equipped with snow plow, consult your snow plow manufacturer for specific compensating weight

recommendation.
