Year to year engine differences 2008-2009

I was doing a junkyard search online and half ton 2008 engines doesn't come up as an automatic interchange with 2009.

Anyone know why?

I am shopping mostly for heads and intake but am going to buy a whole engine to get them.

Agree with Chris. VVT was added for the 2009 model year. One other difference I can think of was the change to the MAF sensor for 09.

Also, I could be wrong, but I personally have never seen a 2009+ truck with a the LY5 or LMG iron-block 5.3. Seems like on the 2009+ trucks they began the quest for fuel economy and most trucks came with the LC9, the flex-fuel aluminum block 5.3. Perhaps one of the more learned GMT-900 anthropoligists can confirm or deny this.

I'm reasonably certain the heads and intake are the same, so for your purposes it may be of little consequence.
