The only new trans go directly to the assembly line.

At production startup GM will have 100-400 Remans on hand, these come from early investigative testing and RTF testing on actual unit.

At production startup GM will have 100-400 Remans on hand, these come from early investigative testing and RTF testing on actual unit.

And this is the case with other manufacturers as well. Honda had a big problem with their 5 speed auto transmissions in 2002 V6 Accords and they installed remanufactured transmissions under warranty in these vehicles, not brand new ones. Technically, if properly rebuilt, a rebuilt transmission should be just as good as properly assembled new one. Often, upgraded components are installed on rebuilt transmissions, which may make them last even longer than new ones.

Even though I would not like a "reman" transmission in a 100 mile truck, You are 100% correct.

 

Back in 1983 on a New GMC Sierra with 400 miles, GM replaced my 700r4 trans with a reman unit.

It's still going strong at our farm with over 300,000 miles and MUCH abuse.
