Engine Block heater 2015 Silverado 3500HD

Can anyone tell me if the plug for the block heater on my 2015 3500hd can be routed to come out through the grill. It appears I have to open the hood each time I want to plug my truck in. The dealership told me that GM does them that way now so you don't scratch the paint. It looks like the cord is long enough. Any help would be appreciated. If they redesigned this that way that sure don't like in the north anywhere.

thanks

Here's a suggestion for you and how I finished my block heater out. Used a marine grade plug housing and mounted it in the fog lamp housing. Works perfect, and eliminates a dangling cord on the front end.

Look at Thread #52 in the link below;

The Marinco (marine grade plug) was purchased off of Amazon for less than $20.00 and comes with a housing seal and stainless hardware making a nice clean installation and the attached plug cap closes tightly to where its hardly noticeable when not in use. I also keep a small tether cord in the console for cases when I am needing to use the block heater and away from home (as some bull runs have larger head male plugs).

Steve,

No you missed the entire point. The original lead on my OEM GM block heater would probably extend beyond the front bumper by 3-5 ft. I didn't want it dangling through the grille, bumper or even coiled up under the hood when not in use so I installed the Marinco Marine grade plug in the fog lamp housing, then tied my OEM block heater 110vlt connector lead to the back of it. This also allowed me to secure the block heater lead inside the engine compartment and tuck it away nicely so that when the hood is open you cannot even tell the truck is equipped with the block heater.

The short tether I showed in the picture is a separate item I purchased that allows me to connect to any bull run lead. At home, all I do is plug a conventional extension cord into the Marinco plug and thats it. I keep the tether in the truck glove box or console in the event I am away from home and the head on the bull run lead is too large to plug in.

Here is a link to the Marinco plug off Amazon with a picture of what it looks like below...

Hope that's clearer now.
