Retrax Cover Modification?

Has anyone ever seen a Retrax bed cover that was the wide rail option and also included the rail hole cutouts? I believe the wide looks a little cleaner, but I will not give up the functionality of the rail hole nearest the tailgate as a handle to get into the bed.

have the Retraxx with the wide rails and I wouldn't think it would be to hard to just cut out the hole. Might be a little work but here is what I thought about , clamp down the rails where they need to go, mark on the bed cap where it sits on it , then remove the rail and bed cap . Then place them together on the ground or work bench and from the underside of the cap draw out where the hole needs to go on the bottom of the rail. Separate the two and drill four hole in each corner of your marking and then use a jigsaw to cut the hole, file the edges smooth then use black touch up paint on the raw aluminum and then reinstall.

I dont climb into the back of my truck often so I went with the wide rails, however when I do I wish they where not covered up, so one day I might just open them up.

Not worth it IMO.

1 - will void Retrax warranty

2 - will likely cause cracking of the powder coat finish

3 - will leave exposed metal where the hole is cut

4 - will likely result in a sharp edge that will cause hand injuries when grasping inside the hole

5 - will be hard to get a smooth finish on the inside of the hole(s) cut edges

6 - will likely be something you regret having tried to do!

When I was considering Retrax, I called them and asked if they provided that service of cutting out the wide rails for the pockets and was told yes.

I talked to Retrax a week ago, they said they would only do the cutouts on the regular rail for $35 dollars more and not do cutouts on the wide. I just installed the MC Pro ( matte black) regular size rails my Denali today with help of a friend. I am still wondering on how to get the middle and back width measurments the same as the front near canister... I'm off a 1/8" . Maybe I can get the front tighter, but not able to get back tighter. ?.? ( try again soon)

One thing that went weird on install, I had to take out the front two side tie downs attachments so the Retrax container would fit in box. You unscrew them while pulling back on them, I got one out, but on the opposite side, one of the metal spring loader spreader fell down into the cavity- shit!!! I need to get a long magnetic later to pull it out of there!

I know, didn' t happen without pictures... After tomorrow, I'll wash and post pictures, I promise...

Ok , here is a picture of my new Retrax MX Pro withe the standard rail width. As you can see, it's perfect to still get my whole hand in the outer 1/2 of the rear hole, I can easily get a great grip to help myself into the box.
