Stalling Truck

Hello - I am new to the board and wanted to say love the site.  There is a ton of excellent information!!

And I also need some help.  I own a 98 Chevy Z71 Ext. cab 5.7L.  The truck has 89,000 miles on it and has been an excellent truck.  However, just recently it has been giving me problems.  It stalls out.  I started it up, lowered the wheel, and pulled out.  It stalled, but not just stalled.  I had no power at all in the truck - no lights, no radio, nothing.  There was no power to the truck.  There was a clicking noise coming from under the dash towards the firewall, so I opened the door to look under the dash and the power cam back on.  This has happened three times in the past three days!!!  Any ideas as to what may be wrong.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I don't want to have to buy a new truck because this one is unreliable.  I finally own this one!!

Again - great site!!

Thanks

As a fellow newbie I welcome you.  As for you problem, man I got no idea, but I am sure someone on this board may know of something.  Sounds definetly some sort of electrical problem, but I really have no idea.  Hope you figure it out though. :werd:

Sounds asepgrad has some good info.  I'd start with that, because obviously the truck is losing all power.

The other, (more expensive) possibllity, could involve the ignition switch.  If you carry alot of keys on your key ring, it will cause abnormal wear on the switch, and will kill (shut down) the vehicle.  My dad had this happen on his Accord.  The tech guys at the shop warned him about it, but he ignored them and later it cost him $350!!!  (I doubt a GM ignition switch would cost that much).
