Clay Bar vs Clay bar glove

I went to my local body supply store today and was going to buy a clay bar. The sales guy asks me "why do you want a clay bar?" I asked him why i wouldn't want to clay bar. He said because they have clay bar mitts now that are reusable. so if it drops it can be washed and reused. he swears by it and said all the local body shops are now using them. I was and till am skeptical. I ended up leaving because i didn't like the guy for one but they were crazy priced! $35 for a clay bar???? whaaaaaat? $50 for the glove, which might not be bad if it works and is as reusable as he says. Im skeptical because its going straight on the paint....sooooo who has the glove type and what are your experiences?

Clay bar is old school along with buff off wax.

Nothing wrong with old school. Do you use the glove then?

Actually there is something wrong with old school. These are not old school paints and they don't react the same to old school techniques. You can use old school on the time period correct things, but not always on new stuff. You don't clean your laptop screen with ammonia like they did a glass screen television.

In the case of clay bars, it won't hurt the paint to bad. It's just that it costs more and since you clean these new rubber ones you don't risk dragging the particles you removed last time over the paint.

Valid point. I will certainly check into those. Thats the great thing about these forums, getting everyone's opinion. do you find these sponges to last you awhile? any recommended washing techniques? what do you use for a good protectant and shine, since wax is old school.

I'll stick with clay. Use it once the throw it away. No worries about the grit not getting washed out of the "magic glove"

You can go for detail clay.It can easily remove most forms of paint contamination. It also helps in surface rust, paint overspray, and its in your budget.

$35 for the new clay bar and $50 for the glove? Too expensive. What does the glove look like by the way? Why is it that expensive?

They are usually towels or "sponge" type products.

The one body shop I use here showed me the clay glove. He really likes it and told me it does a great job. Might have to give it a try when I use up my clay bars.

I just ordered one...going to try it out next week on my 13 Malibu that needs it badly.
