Talk about bad design

My Right front door has this loud rattling noise going over bumps. Today i discoverd why, the speaker behind teh grill is resting on the grill. The speaker is not even held on by screws just a little clip! Anybody esle have this problem? Now i have to decide to fix it my self or let teh dealer molest my door...

if that clip is metal, I would take a self-tapping screw with a medium head and put it right in the middle of that clip, so it spreads it out...NO PUN...

Girth, that clip is plastic, and a POS at that.

I would just get a couple of self-tapping screws, and put them in there with a little more authority than what GM intended.

Actually I would replace them with a better speaker while I was in there. But thats just me.

Actually I was impressed when seeing that clip in design - makes it easy to r&r them (well at least the fronts on my 01 Tahoe, the rears were screw-in and a slightly different size). When I got replacement Cerwin Vega 6002 from Crutchfield they also supplied clip in adapters - quick and easy upgrade. The clip snaps in with authority, sounds like yours is not seated.

The door panel comes off really easy. Just snap off the trim escutcheons with a flat head, remove a few screws, then lift the panel UP then toward you (it sort of hangs on hooks) - I was flabbergasted at how easy the panel comes off/goes on without hurting anything. There is probably a better r&r procedure in prior posts on this forum.

The speaker adapters are by Metra Electronics (800-221-0932) p/n 82-3002 and say they are for adapting 5.25" OR 6.5" speakers to front door locations on Chev/GMC trucks 95-99 (but they also worked fine in my 01 Tahoe). Crutchfield just sent them and some speaker wiring adapters along when I ordered 6.5" replacement speakers thru their website, I did not know they even existed before they showed up with my order.

IIRC the wiring adapters just plugged into the stock connector then the other end had connectors that should have fit the new speakers but the spades were just slightly too small so I ended up soldering them onto the speakers.

My 02 Sierra did the same thing, kinda noticed it one day when the sun hit it right. I pulled the panel off which is by the way the easiest panel i have ever pulled of and just used two self tapping screws to remount the speaker. Put then in from the front of the speaker and used black nail polish to cover the silver color. Worked out really well. Better than a trip to the dealer, make an appointment and wait a whole day to get my truck back.
