No brake lights, but reverse lights come on.

I was driving the other night when I man pulled up next to me and motioned for me to roll my window down. When I did he said that my reverse lights come on when I hit the breaks not the break lights. Anyone else have this issue. I tried a quick search and didn't see anything.

 

Anyone have some ideas about what the issue could be coming from?

I'd say either a bad stop lamp switch or, seeing that reverse lights are coming on, a bad park/neutral back up lamp switch.

Is there any possibility that the sockets got changed around in the lens?

I checked and the tail light is lit in the correct spot when the lights are on.

So what lights up when you put it in reverse?

Any weird dimming of taillights when braking?

Could be bad ground (or possibly a short).

nothing comes on when it's in reverse.
