Retrax Fitment Issue

I installed the Retrax cover yesterday, but I'm unable to close the tailgate. I've determined that the bearing is preventing the tailgate from closing. Has anyone else had this issue? Did your tailgate close just fine after spacing the cover 1/8" from the tailgate and also not lifting up on the cover while clamping it? Did you have to cut the trim piece on the tailgate to get the cover to close?

 

I believe my only fix for this is to space the cover more than 1/8" away from the tailgate and ignore the instructions on that part. I haven't yet done it but will have to try that I guess. I am just concerned that it will not seal water at the tailgate edge with the extra spacing and the rails might not follow the trucks contours. The instructions also said that "it may cause a better fit it you lift up the cover while clamping." That won't work because the amount I would need to raise the cover would mean the cover won't seal on the bed rails. That leaves me with eiter cutting the tailgate plastic trim or spacing the cover more than 1/8" from the tailgate. I don't think it's an acceptable solution to hack up the tailgate trim on a 60k truck to fit a 1.5k cover. The cover should fit the truck, not the opposite.
