Fox coilover adjustment how to

Anyone ever adjusted a Fox coil over either lifted truck or the leveling kit coilovers?

I just had my BDS 6in lift with Fox coil overs finished and I new from the beginning I wanted a little rake. BDS had told me with a spanner wrench they are adjustable 4-7in if I jack the truck up with weight off springs loosen the set screw and turn the collar. I decided to install with the way BDS had the coil over set at 6in of lift and would adjust depending where the rear height would be.

Now that its installed the hose for the remote reservoir is in the way of getting a spanner wrench in there. I called BDS and they tell me I need to adjust with the coil over off the truck and use a spring compressor. This is the opposite of what they 1st told me and also every other type of coil over brand is adjustable on the truck.

I also don't think it makes sense taking it off. You would have to guess how much to turn the collar reinstall everything measure ride height and take apart and redo if it isn't enough or too much. Also if one side is different ride height than the other it would be almost impossible to know exactly how much to turn the collar.

I think you adjust at the bottom of the coilover. Near where its bolted to the wheel. From the pictures I see online of fox coilovers, it's the black collars at the bottom of the spring. Oh wait, that's for ones without the external reservoirs.

Yea, there doesn't seem to be a lot of options with the hose coming right out of the middle like that.

I found this video of adjusting coil overs with a steel rod

I think it may work I would be able to turn the collar only an inch at a time since the hose is in the middle

Just confirmed with Fox Shocks the coil over can only be adjusted with a spring compressor and since the reservoir hose is in the middle of the collar I have to remove from coil over from the truck to adjust. 1/2" on the threads equals 1inch ride height. I really wish BDS had told be this in the beginning. I'm kind of ticked I will need to remove them I was hoping I would get used to and like the full 6inches of lift but I just think it looks way to high up front.

^^^^^^

Can you post a few side photos of your truck? Maybe some honest opinions on height will make your decision to adjust or not easier.

The rear is dead on 1 inch higher than the rear which Im ok with. I would just prefer the CV angles to be flatter. The BDS 6inch kit is their 4Inch lift with longer struts so you end up with CV angles the same as if you did a leveling kit. the down travel is also minimal I attached pics of how close the control arm is to the stop. In the next couple weeks I am going to take of the coil overs and adjust to lower the from 1.5 inches so I will have 4.5 inches of lift in front. DS said this is height will still give me enough clearance for my tires and the truck will ride even better since it will have more control arm drop.

We’re you able to do this with a strut compressor or did you take it to a shop ?

I took to a shop and they used a spring compressor to adust the the ride height

I'm in the exact same spot you were right now. I have the 6" BDS coilover, but I'd like to drop it all the way down for the same reason. I'm wondering how much that could lower my front height...I'd like to get down to 4.5" or lower.

I'm even thinking about dropping from 35.6" tires on 20" wheels down to 34"s on 18" wheels. How far did you take yours down? Did you get before/after measurements? Do you have before/after pictures?

I had mine lowered 1.5” which is what Bds recommends to still run 35” tires without rubbing I don’t remember the fender measurements. First pic was at 6” lift second pic is lowered to 4.5” lift. If you do lower the front make sure you switch out the sway bar drop bracket to the one used for 4 in lift kit

Did you notice any benefit to gas mileage? The aerodynamics are quite a bit different between the two.
