I want to do this for my regular side bars, can anyone provide insight on how to wire an LED strip to shine when the doors are opened and/or when the unlock button is hit

 

You can tap into the puddle light signal, I am not sure if that wire is there too if your truck comes without puddle light under the mirrors.

I assume no since there isnt a light under my mirror Hmmm ... ive been trying to search youtube but coming up empty handed on it for a silverado or sierra.

look up the electrical from gm upfitter, there is the pin out for the BCM, it is where I have tapped in for my box light to come up with puddle light. It lights up when I unlock, but does not light up if I back up!

Not sure if your still on here but do u know which wire that is? Gonna install my amp step in about a week just ordered a new controlller gonna hardwire them in so it doesn’t take your odb2 port since I think it already has a splitter on it. Also gonna do this led strip so having them come on with the puddle lamps would actually make more since.
