Siri Eyes Free

Do the 2015 Silverado's have the Siri Eyes Free app? I only have the one phone icon on the screen and it does not access Siri. My phone is connected through Bluetooth and I can see contacts and recent calls but I cant access the Siri commands. I didn't know if I was missing something or the feature isn't there.

You must plug the phone into one of the USB ports to use the " Hey Siri " function. Once you have it plugged in it will work just fine. I use it to send texts while driving.

Hadn't thought of that but just tried it and still no go. Tried disconnecting the Bluetooth link just to see if it made a difference.

Any settings on the phone itself I might be missing? The radio immediately starts playing music from the phone as soon as its connected through USB so I know it sees the phone.

Go to settings, General, Siri, and select Allow " hey Siri ". But the setting requires the phone be plugged in. Try that it will work fine. It will mute the radio and it will lower you vent control with the sound coming through your stereo.

Ok, strange there is no General in my settings.

However I did find on another website how to make it work. While the phone is connected trough Bluetooth, press and hold the voice command on the steering wheel for at least 2 seconds. The radio mutes, air turns down and you get the tone for siri commands.

Tried texting, calling, and maps and all work. Much better than the other voice command as it never seems to understand me.

If you have a IPhone there is a generel tab in settings. I wasn't ever speaking about your truck. It is a function of the phone called " Hey Siri ", but glad you were able to get it to work either way.

You are right. I misunderstood you. "hey siri" was turned off on the iPhone. Actually it works out better for me to connect the iPhone via USB as that will allow me to have my work phone connected to Bluetooth. My truck is used for work and I am using both phones during the day.

Thanks for all your help!

I don't see why I won't work on the '14's system is the same isn't it? Since the functionality is the iPhone itself and not the vehicle. I could be wrong but I would try it.

I did try it in my 14 after driving a 15 for awhile when mine was in the shop.

Seems like I remember reading in my search this morning that it wasn't introduced in the Silverados until August 2014

No, while visually the 2014 system looks like the 2015 system, the hardware is different and there were changes made to the CANBUS system that don't allow the 2014 to be backwards compatible with the 2015 system. One of the features the 214 trucks didn't get that was in the product brochure was the text function.

GM has done this before in the past, 2009 was the first year for BT. It was handled via the OnStar module and the modules were not ready in time, so early 2009 vehicles didn't get BT and the 2009.5 vehicles got the BT function.

I have also noticed that the 2015 has capacitive touch screen which allows pinch zoom on the map. 2014 uses resistive screen, single touch at a time :(

Oh, well dang that sucks cause the text function is one of the things I use very often as it is illegal to text and drive where I am.
