I totally forgot my 15' had this feature and was just reading about the 16's and apple carply and remembered to try this. It works great. Whens iphone is plugged in via USB instead of just pushing the voice commands button, you hold it down and then you get the familiar Siri tone that indicates the phone is listening and ready. At that point you use your typical voice commands. It allows you to compose and send text messages which the MyLink system will not let you do (other than canned responses). Pretty awesome. I don't understand complaints about the MyLink system. I think it's top notch. I had a high end tiguan and this blows VW's InfoTainment system out of the water. Way better than dodge.jeep UConnect as well which I had in my Jeep. It basically does everything I could ask of it.

I was nervous I was going to wish I waited for a 16' to get the apple carplay functioanlity, but other than getting apple maps displayed on the 8" screen as well as spotify, I canc ompletely do without it.

Works the same way if you are connected using Bluetooth. Easier for me than having to connect the usb cable each time.

Doesn't have to be tethered. Just hold down voice command button until Siri activates.

Alright, seriously this truck just keeps getting better. I had read about this feature in the Chevys when searching for a truck, but totally forgot about it as it is not mentioned in any of the manuals (at least not that I have seen) nor is it mentioned in the settings or on the screen anywhere. This is a seriously awesome function. Using Siri will actually let you respond to text messages with dictation (not forcing you into one of the canned, although configurable, responses available via MyLink).

THANK YOU for mentioning it works via Bluetooth because I just happened to notice it was behaving strangely when tethered. If tethered and I am listening to Spotify, and ask for directions, it would pause Spotify and then after done with direction start playing apple radio in the music app. I just tried it again connected via Bluetooth, and if I ask for directions it goes right back to playing Spotify like it should. Essentially, it works even better when using the BT.

I had been wondering if I would be peeved I didn't wait for the car play integration in the 2016's, but now that I figured this out, essentially the only thing I'm not getting that CarPlay would enable, is actually displaying the phones GPS app on the screen. There are a couple other little things, but that's the biggest.

Ive said it before but I really don't get the complaints about the MyLink system. I find it to be the best system I have encountered in a vehicle. Paired with the Bose sound system Im in techie heaven in my truck.
