You can call to activate the OnStar even if you didn't do it during the trial. Worst case, if the rep won't activate you for free for a month, just pay for a single month. Once you logon and use the app once, it's active for 5 years (even if you stop your service in between). A $30/mo service fee (for a single month) to OnStar for the convenience of not having an aftermarket alarm sounds like an easy investment.

I'm not sure what year it started but you don't have to have onstar to use the key fob tap in the app just down load the app and set up with onstar and that's it I use mine all the time and never pay for onstar

I wouldn't let any best buy touch my truck under any circumstance. MAYBE if I was in the shop supervising.

 

I'm in a similar situation where my truck is parked too far away. I love the OnStar app. The BEST part of it hands down though is making sure my my furd driving coworker sees me using it.

 

Not sure about your 2014, but with my 2015, the remote start portion is free for 5 years as long as it was used once within the first x months. That feature was not well publicized, but I know it's been discussed on here before.

 

I have the On Star App,,, but was told it was free for 6 months. How did you get the key fob part for free for 5 years? How do I know if I got it for 5 years?

That all you need but after the six months are up only the key fob tab will work and I have not heard of it stop working after five years ? And make sure you have the onstar "remote link" app

OnStar itself is free for six months. Use the app once during this period and the Key Fob section of the app will continue to work for a full five years even if you don't keep the OnStar service.

I just hope move is still free after 6 months. It's hard to believe they are giving the best feature for free.
