Hey guys just checking to see if anyone else has had a problem/noise like this.

 

I drive an 2014 Crew Cab LTZ with roughly 10,000 miles. In case this info will help.

 

Now it doesn't always happen but when it does, it doesn't start until I am going roughly 30 mph. It sounds like a high chirping, or like a cricket is in the cab. It also seems like it's coming from the passenger side. Bumps don't affect this noise like the noise I have in my sunglasses holder. Only the speed does.

 

Anyways I love my truck and it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but if I could fix it that would be awesome.

 

Also thanks in advance anyone and everyone who shares their input or personal experience.

Its 100% the flapper valve just behind the muffler on your exhaust. It chirps when your truck transition's from v4-v8.

 

Put a bolt and nuf through it or a hose clamp and clamp of open. OR... Have the dealer replace your exhaust.

That's what I was thinking. The noise in my video is from the flapper valve

And do you hear it in the front on the passenger side as well? I'll still listen when I arrive home.

That sound is much more consistent than mine, and mine doesn't keep a constant chirp going in that way. I'll have to upload a clip of my trucks noise. Although it may just sound different on video. But I'll have to do some testing and comparison as that could be it.

I'd put money on the Flapper Valve as well.

 

I took my truck in over the winter complaining of the noise. The shop foreman at the time went on a ride along and couldn't figure it out and told me to book an appointment so that they can do a thorough assessment. I waited till after winter, in which during this time, I scoured the forums and came across this Flapper Valve issue. As well, the chirp in that time got worse and would actually chirp every time I stepped on the throttle...it was quite embarrassing.

 

I recently just took it in for an oil change and told them that I'm positive that my flapper valve is the reason for the noise. Later that day, they call me to tell me that it wasn't the flapper valve and that it was my rear leaf springs that needed to be lubed up as per some bulletin...I took their word for it, drove it home...fast forward a couple days and the chirping was back! I made another appointment, took the (new) shop foreman for a spin and he agreed that it was in fact the flapper valve. They replaced my exhaust with part # 23219691, which is the exhaust, resonator and tail pipe ( work order: 4051980 exhaust muffler with resonator, exhaust and tail pipe replacement)...he even warned me that it might come back as he's had similar experiences with other owners. ***Sigh***

 

Prior to installation, I tried making a deal with him to carry over the cost of the new exhaust and put it towards the GM Borla one. He said he couldn't do it...now that this new exhaust that they put on is starting to chirp, I'm definitely going to strong arm them into something.

It's your flapper valve in the exhaust system and is related to the Active Fuel Management feature. It happens every time your engine switches from V4 to V8. I complained about this in my 2015 SLT 5.3 Sierra months ago and was told that there is no fix and to turn up the radio so that I don't hear it.

 

It's very frustrating and unacceptable. I've had passengers in my truck think that my transmission was on the fritz. I complained again when I had my oil changed three weeks ago and my service adviser put it on the service ticket but my receipt when I picked up my truck said that it was "operating as designed."

 

Waiting for GM to come up with a fix.... this did not happen in my 2007 Sierra with Active Fuel Management.

I'm going to set up a service appointment and see if I can get that checked out. Seems as though that's the problem as everyone knows what it is just from explanation. I'll let you guys know how I make out.

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions? 
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!  
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?. 
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it. 
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
