2015 w/ Bose stereo replacement

Recommended Posts

Posted

This weekend I'll be attempting to install a Kenwood DDX9902S into my 2015 Silverado with Bose.

I'll be using the PAC RP5-GM51 to integrate the new stereo and the Metra 70-2057 to bypass the Bose amp.

I think I have everything down that needs to be done but if anyone has any pointers I'd like to hear from you. I've never seen anyone that has attempted this across the GM forums.

I'll report back with how it goes.

I haven't seen anyone do this either. I have upgraded my Bose system a lot. *Subscribed*.

Not much progress today due to having to work most of the day. I have the amp bypass harness and deck harness all wired up and ready to go. I think I've cut the correct wires coming out of the RP5, we'll find out tomorrow hopefully.

I have a feeling that I will lose the dash speakers and also worried about the ohm rating on the Bose speakers causing a problem. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Ok, I was able to test the deck and wiring out today and everything worked with a few exceptions. I'll go over a few things below.

  • For those that don't already know, you will have to cut the support brackets for the onstar and factory "brains" to fit an aftermarket deck.
  • Using the Bose amp wiring colors provided with the RP5 instructions, there was one wire that was incorrectly marked. Pin 6 in the black connector is not subwoofer negative, it is right front negative.
  • If you use the 70-2057 amp bypass harness, carefully match the pins on the Bose connection diagram included with the RP5 to the speaker wire harness coming out of the RP5. There are two sets of orange wires on the bypass harness marked for illumination that will need to be used for the rear speaker connections. I had already tech flexed the bypass harness and that made it a pain to trace the correct set of wires but I was able to figure it out. A continuity tester would have been nice.
  • To add to the above point, you can't just match color for color on the bypass harness. You have to use the wiring diagram with the RP 5. Otherwise, no workie, you will have one front speaker, no rears, and sound coming out of the sub.
  • You will lose your dash speakers. There is a workaround for this that will work if you don't want your rears. You'll need to wire the dash as the fronts and the front door speakers as the rears. Will take some swapping with the bypass harness to do this. I did not test this but it will work. I actually plan on running the speakers this way and using my deck to crossover the dash (front channel) so that they only produce higher frequencies. I will leave the front door speakers (rear channel) at full range.
  • The chime module included with the RP5 produced the door chimes etc... but for the parking sensor alerts, for the testing I did, there was only an audible alert when you were in the red section (being as close as possible without hitting something) that is visible in the dash screen. I need to test this more.
  • I did not connect the rear camera to test nor did I connect the wire to use the steering wheel controls. Will test that later.

I'm not sure how well I like the DDX9902S. I didn't check out Car Play or any of that but I really didn't buy it for that. I really just wanted a deck with a better EQ, crossover, time alignment and the ability to add a sub with greater control. The screen is low res and just looks a little dated to me. We'll see once I get it installed and have more time to use it.

I stopped working on the install today as I am not quite ready to cut into the dash.

Any questions, ask away.

The chime sounding on last bar of parking alert is how it works in the stock 2015 setup in my truck so that seems normal.

Good luck with your project.
