Hello to all. This is my first post.

I have a 2002 Tahoe that has started intermittently not turning over. I have changed the CPS and the ignition relay as well as the key cylinder. I do not get any of the security system issues. When it starts it starts just fine no starter grind or drag. It does have an oil leak and there is oil all over the bottom end. I have noticed that when it does start the tack pointer jumps higher when the key is turned on then when it does not start. Any comments will be appreciated.

Also when checking the connections actually take the cables off both ends of it. Clean battery cables and make sure they are tight when put back on. Take ground connection off of engine and battery, If insulation is split at terminal, twist and bend the wire to make sure no power or crap comes out of the split insulation. Not uncommon for the wire to corrode up inside the insulation once it splits. Do the same for the positive cable too.

When it does not crank over, does it reset the clock? Try leaving the door open before trying to stat the engine, and if it happens to be one of the times it fails, pay attention to the dome light. On a bad connection or bad battery the dome light will most likely shut off completely, and then come back on after releasing the key.

Cheaper to ask and learn than to guess with your wallet.

Check ground connections at battery and at engine. Also any ground cables that run from chassis to body. Generally if you experience a complete failure when you turn the key to Start, and you hear no noise of any kind, it will be a bad connection, or a bad battery. Checking and cleaning the connections is free. Some autoparts stores will perform a free battery check. You should take advantage of that.

You are about to find out that fixing an intermittent problem will not be easy to accomplish on purpose. Try to keep any fix attempts to just one at a time. Nothing more frustrating that fixing an intermittent problem and not know what fixed it. Actually, there is one thing more frustrating, making two fixes, where the first one actually fixed it, but the second fix broke it again.
