2015 prices....

It is a matter of taste, but my 2015 2500 6.0L really became my own when I put a Magnaflo muffler on in place of the trash can size stock muffler. Not loud, but a great mellow throaty sound that is reminiscent of the great muscle car sound. I don't like some window shaking, cracking sound. The Magnaflo really brought a richness to the sound. Not obnoxious. The 6.0L and the stock exhaust, combined with the Magnaflo really is a pleasure to drive. Just a thought if you were motivated to do something like that.

I also felt the need to take a set of McGaughy's shackles and drop the back end a couple of inches. I have oft described the rake as reminding me of cat being petted. Another owner described it as a cat in heat, which may actually be a better description. That two inch drop hasn't really been an issue with a load in the back. Worth every bit of the $75 investment to me.

Im new to the 2500 world and was a little surprised how little the couple of Chevy dealers I first talked to wanted to deal on the price compared to the 1500's, especially this late in the year. Ultimately ended up doing pretty well though on the GMC I think. Sticker was 59800 (duramax SLE with leather/navi/etc) and got it for a little over 50k before trade. They also gave me about 2500 more on my old truck than anyone else would.

I would think that is a decent deal. Maybe not the best deal ever seen, but sure not a bad one. Everything is pretty much regional and a matter of what the market is in the area for the vehicle in question. There are places where they almost can't give away a Dmax 2500, and others where it is like pulling teeth to get the dealer to discount very much.

It is strikingly similar to rates I get in various freight lanes. I can charge the snot out of someone where there is more freight than available trucks. In other areas where the reverse is true, one might have to eat it on freight rate and just barely make a profit or just break even. The key is the overall profit margin. If a dealer has most of their profit margins going on across the spectrum of vehicle sales, generally, one can get them to discount pretty good on a truck. If most of their sales are with trucks, since that is what most folks want, it is more difficult to get them to budge. Just a marketing and business model thing. That is why I shop dealers as well as shop trucks whenever I buy.

It's interesting that you should say that, Cowpie. After getting my 2500 and hooking up my trailer, I was surprised to see that the 2015 2500 was about 1.5" higher than my 2012 3500 DRW. I know that a couple of inches doesn't sound like much - but after getting my new truck home I was wishing that the rear end was a little lower. I use the bed of my truck a lot, and I appreciate the lower height for loading/unloading it. In fact I was actually looking at the 1500s, trying to convince myself that I could 'make' it work due to the fact that they were a little shorter - though in the end I came to my senses and bought the 2500 that I was originally looking at.

Similar thing with me. I am just an old beat up ex Army Cavalry Scout Sergeant that has no inclination or motivation to crawl in and out of my pickup bed like I am trying to get up on a loading dock. I use my bed frequently and needed the ability to get in and out of it more practical. Amazing how just the 2" drop shackles made such significant difference.
