4x4 Noise?

Recommended Posts

Not new to trucks but New to a 4x4, Born and raised in AZ i never had a need for 4x4. I threw my 2014 in to 4x4 the other day while driving to the store and it was loud. My question is, Is it normal for it to be loud, Clunking/Jerking when turning, I know there's a lot of moving parts i've just never drove a truck in 4x4.

Shouldn't be driving it in 4wd on dry pavement especially if you don't need to be lol

It will feel like it's binding up a bit while turning may clunk from the front diff trying to slip/ engage as well.

It shouldn't be real loud but maybe a slight hum is possible, gears need to mesh more. I changed diff fluids at 1k miles with full syn to get out break in shavings.

You should be fine IMHO

Clunking on dry pavement in 4 wheel drive while turning is normal. It's hard to answer about the noise without hearing it.

You're not supposed to put it on 4x4 unless you're off-road or in snow

What was already said :

Don't drive on dry pavement in 4wd

Drive a couple hundred miles in 4wd (snow or dirt) to wear the gears in , and it will quiet right down only being slightly louder than 2wd

Awesome, Thanks for all the replies. Driving on dry payvment makes scene and is pretty self explanatory i was just playing with my new toy and was unfamiliar with the noises coming from the front end!

Very hard packed snow can also be as bad as dry pavement. In that condition it can be best to use AUTO 4wd.

lol. don't use 4 wheel drive on dry pavement. Thats a good way to blow a cv and damage your transfer case.
