Remote Start after 5 years

Question?

When I bought my GMC, I wanted a truck that had Command Start, and not having factory Command Start on previous GMC's (only store bought- self installed). Here in Canada it's nearly a necessity, in the winter.

But, as I understand, the remote start via the key fobs, will only be operational for 5 years from the purchase date of the truck. What happens after 5 years, no Remote Start? Also, the Remote Link app, only works if you have an active Onstar account?

Am I correct on this or am I misunderstanding something?

If you bought your truck with factory remote start active it will remain active for the life of the vehicle.

The remote start feature using the OnStar app should be active for 5 years from the day your truck was put in service. No OnStar acct. required.

Yep only the OnStar remote link feature stops. If you have keyfobs they work until the battery dies in the fob, or the truck rots away lol.

I am willing to bet that OnStar would allow you to renew the app version of remote start for a fee.

Not sure about Canada, but in the US the OnStar Remote Link app will start the vehicle for 5 years without a subscription. After that you have to maintain OnStar service.

Hey, Thanks Guys

It was just something that crossed my mind this morning, while I was having my coffee. I wasn't quite sure how the Remote app and the key fob remote related to one another, in how long they were operational for. I didn't think you would lose the operation of your key fob remote start, after 5 years. But then I was thinking, maybe there's another fee to keep the remote start operational. You just never know. There's always somebody wanting a piece of that pie, which is my pay cheque
