The 6 speed does an air purge on the first 2-3 shift which causes a slip and sometimes a flare. If you only see this on the first 2-3 shift it is normal.

Where are you on the height adjustment? I found that if the seat is all the way down it will rock front to back. If you lift it up a bit the rock goes away.

Clogged catalytic converter 10k miles on 2016 silverado
andyhaug replied to Timmyboy188's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Here are a couple of possibilities. Not sure how I feel about the second one, seems like dirt going through the engine would be bad for everything. Premature Catalytic Converter Failure October 22, 2014 If the catalytic converter has failed or DTC P0420 (Catalyst System Low Efficiency) or P0430 (Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2) is set on some 2015 and prior GM cars and gasoline-powered mid-size trucks, light-duty trucks and heavy-duty trucks, inspect for a poor crimp at circuit terminal on the engine bank with the condition. Inspect the ground for possible corrosion or damage at the ground terminal ring, fasteners and grounding surfaces. (Fig. 12, 13) If no corrosion or damage is found, tighten the ground bolt to the proper torque specification. (Fig. 14) Fig 12 Fig 13 Fig 14 – Thanks to Richard Renshaw No Comments » Air Filter Box Seal Leak April 25, 2016 On some 2014-2016 Corvette, Silverado, Sierra; 2015-2016 Escalade models, Yukon models; and 2016 CTS and Camaro equipped with a V8 engine (RPOs LT1, LT4, L83, L86, LV1, LV3), the MIL may be illuminated and DTCs P0420 (Catalyst System Low Efficiency) and P0430 (Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2) may be set. These conditions may be caused by excessive dirt/debris entering the air filter box and bypassing the seal of the air filter, causing damage to the H02 sensor element (Fig. 15) and blocking the catalytic converter. (Fig. 16) Fig. 15 Fig. 16 Do not replace any parts for these conditions until the air filter housing has been validated to be completely sealed. Inspect the air housing cover for any missing tabs or fasteners. Also remove the air filter housing cover and inspect the seal around the filter as well as the air filter sealing surface for signs of not contacting the air filter seal. (Fig. 17) Fig. 17 In addition, look for dirt/debris in the air filter housing cover bypassing the air filter. (Fig. 18) If dirt/debris is bypassing the air filter due to a faulty seal, replace the air filter. If the air filter housing is not properly sealing, refer to the appropriate Service Information for additional diagnostic procedures. Fig. 18 -
I found that mine will only rock front to back if the seat is all the way down. If I raise it up a little, no more rocking.

I believe it only affects the power seat option. Mine is power, not sure if it is 8 or 10-way though.

I don't own one, I have a 2015, but I have looked at several 2016s. All of them that I have looked at show signs of rust on the ends of the rear crossmembers that are exposed in the rear wheel wells. One 2016 that the dealer had used as a loaner during the winter showed rust on every weld visible in the rear wheel wells. Someone posted on here somewhere that the TSB for frame rust was updated to include the 2016 model.

It is not much actually. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the bottom travel.

If you are running with the seat all the way down then it will rock front to back. I found this on mine after the really tall service tech drove it and 4 trips trying to get them to fix it. It will also sink if not raised far enough. The problem is in the 4 link seat suspension, if it is too low the links do not have the mechanical advantage to keep the seat from rocking back and forth.

Mine currently doesn't vibrate. Transmission is absolutely clueless, the pedals seem like they are just suggestions. Looking at the vibration threads, seems like the vibration issue is getting better, just frustrating because there is no for sure fix. At least they are working on vibration issues, the dealer is telling me that there is nothing wrong with my transmission and that it is my opinion that it is broken. Had the transmission try and push me into the back of a truck last week, sounds normal to me.

Anyone with a 2016 seeing problems? I have a 2015 that they stripped and coated with new, 6 months later it is still rusty. Looked at some 2016s on the lot, in the rear wheel wells the round cross members are all starting to rust. Trying to get out of my 2015 for transmission problems, but not sure I want a 2016 that is rusting already and probably still has the transmission problems.

2014 5.3L 6 Speed RPM Fluctuations
andyhaug replied to morrislee's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Is it the downhill assist? It seems like it is trying to slow you down while going downhill by downshifting to 5th. I assume you are using cruise in the video? Try it without. You could also try holding in the tow haul button until it turns off downhill assist. -
2014 5.3L 6 Speed RPM Fluctuations
andyhaug replied to morrislee's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I have a 2015 with the same engine/transmission. I noticed the small fluctuations a while ago, at about 5000 miles. Asked the dealer about it and was told that they all do that. For the 1500 to 1800 change, is it changing from V8 to V4 mode or V4 to V8? I have noticed that the RPMs change quite a bit when it changes. -
** Read Before You Buy a 2014/2015 GM Truck**
andyhaug replied to fireaxxe's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I think the difference is in how they respond. I was looking over F150 forums and I do not see all of the "Normal" or "Could not duplicate" standard GM answers that I see here. Every time I take my truck back I feel like I am being called stupid for even bringing any issue up. I have had this truck for a little over 11 months and have been complaining about the transmission almost as long. The dealer has captured the transmission flare but still no solution. Replaced the transmission and it came back, still no solution. Now it has started a squeak/squeal on startup when cold. I bet that is "normal" now too. This seems like GM's standard now, can't figure something out, "normal". Too expensive to fix something right, "Normal". -
It fixed the front to back rocking. They had to install the clip to get the seat bottom to stop moving independently from the back.

Found the problem causing the seat to rock front to back. Service tech is really tall and had the seat all the way down and back last time I picked up my truck. If the seat is all the way down the 4 link seat suspension links line up with the actuator so the actuator cannot hold the seat properly. Raised the seat up part way and no more rocking. Wonder what they were thinking when they designed this.

Thanks for the quick replies. Not sure why my 2015 user manual has not been updated since this is from October 2014. Even the online 2015 manual states 8.5 still. Yes I was using the dimple. It is well above the full dimple and the entire cross hatch pattern.

Anyone know how much oil actually goes into a 2015 5.3? My user manual says 8.5 quarts oil and filter. The dealership is telling me 8 quarts, but 1 tech there was putting in 8.5 quarts. When he put 8.5 quarts into my truck it reads 0.5-1 quarts high. What is the chance that there is something in my engine that is not supposed to be there?

Last time I talked to ERT they were completely backing the dealer. The dealer told me that it was normal based on others that they tested including a high country. On a trip for work now, I plan to go back and look at these others that make it normal. Otherwise I am thinking of making an older generation seat slide in there, back when they actually cared. Anyone know how much different it is? Maybe I could just weld the existing one in place, at least it wouldn't rock anymore. If I wanted a rocking chair I would get a porch, not a new truck.

How many people have seats that shift front to back? Every time I stop it rocks forward slightly then back. It is more than just the seat shifting with weight, there is a loose feel to the seat allowing it to shift front to back. Just got mine back and the dealer assured me that it was "normal". The frustrating part is the 2000 Silverado I traded in did not do this.
-
Had mine done. Two months later it all peeled off of the welds on the frame, it is rusting by the rear wheels and all the cross member holes are rusting. It is back at the dealer hopefully getting fixed again.
