How to tell actual Millage on a truck?

Just read post by OBYONE regarding Denial of GMPP due to changing out the cluster to a upgrade.

This brings up a good subject as I am looking to purchase a used Tahoe /Yukon (2001 - 2003). I have seen HUGH variations in millage previous owners have racked up. Some with very low millage I question if its right or not (like 18,000 on a '02).

Other than the odometer in the cluster where else is the millage stored and how would one access this information?

The PCM  would also store this info. and  I know that a dealer tech. can plug in their OBDII computer scanner and down load the information.

is the millage for the cluster taken off the rear wheel ABS sensor like most dodge / jeep products? Or does it take it off the transmission speed sensor?

Dodge / Jeep vehicles I have been told uses the ABS wheel sensor for the odometer / speed odometer and the Tranny speed sensor for the PCM

Can the information be obtained by using AUTOTAP and a laptop?

I want to be able to tell if the millage is accurate before I spend my hard earned cash.

Thanks

on the newer chevys you can check the engine hours

You can check the hours and divide milage by hours to get avg mph should be good to see if they tampered with it
