CarPlay for 2014 Silverado

Any ideas if a 2014 can be updated to accept Apple CarPlay?

If you are talking about GM updating our trucks to accept CarPlay? then no we have been told by GM engineers, they will not. Are there aftermarket options to have CarPlay on our trucks? yes. There is already a thread about it here, but I can't find it at the moment...

Found it...post #405 in this thread...it explains why it cannot simply be a software update...MVI will offer a hardware upgrade...

Honestlt for the amount of money MVI will charge it would make more sense to get a nice aftermarket unit. Personally if I ever upgrade the radio I'll purchase the 9" Alpine kit for our trucks. Probably end up costing just a couple hundred more than MVI.

I havn't had an upgraded headunit in any of my vehicles for a few years now. The biggest downside to upgrading was the loss of OE functionality. Are the current aftermarket headunits better at this now? More so now than before this is more important as the OE touch-screen lets you control pretty much all the vehicle functions and settings. A/c, remote start, blutooth, etc.

^ Thats exactly why I won't swap headunits. You lose functionality and it looks weird with missing knobs. Back in my 07 it wasn't an issue but just about every setting is controlled through the stock headunit now.

Nowdays there is no reason to lose OE functionality. You just need to purchase a headunit that is designed to work with an aftermarket product like idatalink. For our trucks Alpine makes a restyle kit that includes a 9" headinit, new surround and idatalink. MSRP is $2999.99 but you can find them on ebay and amazon for about $1800 to 2000 new. Personally i would much rather that price for a whole new unit than pay $1500+ on a HMI module for our factory radio's. I contact MVI before and it was $1500 for navigation, video unlock and screen mirroring. I can't imagine ehat they'll charge for apple and android auto integrations.

For the K2? I thought they only had those for up to the 2013s?

I'm with you though, I'd much rather spend the money aftermarket and know that I can get upgrades when they come out and not have to pay for yearly navigation updates. Plus, I'd guess they retain some value if you decide to sell it down the road.

Yeah they've had a kit for the K2XX since early summer. If i ever replace mine ill keep the factory unit and sell the alpine separately.

I'd love to take a look at this. Do you have a link or a part number? I don not see anything specific to these trucks, only the 2007 - 2013. But I'm sure I'm overlooking something.

Alpine only has the restyle kit. This doesn't give you factory integration features, just the trim panel and head unit. The key to making it work with the factory features (HVAC, parking sensors, etc) is the iDatalink Maestro RR, which is still in beta for the K2's. Once that is available, you will have options. Until then, not so much.

Your wrong, Alpine comes with the restyle kit, headunit and the iDatalink for $2999.99 MSRP.

I'm not wrong, I assure you.

I am a beta tester for the iDatalink Maestro for the K2's.

The iDatalink you get with that restyle kit does not work with the K2. It only works through MY 2013 (1500) and MY 2014 (HD). The restyle kit and head unit will fit, but not be fully functional. Have fun with that for your $3K.
