New GMC Lurker

Hello, I have a Ram 1500 Ecodiesel and have been pleased with the truck so far. For some reason I keep gravitating toward the GMC truck and have joined the forum to learn from what people are sharing. I am considering buying a 6.2L double or crewcab SLT later this year. If I hadn't purchased my Ecodiesel 1 year ago I'd buy one sooner. I'm a little embarrassed to be looking at a new truck AGAIN. Just wanted to introduce myself.

Nothing wrong with looking at a new truck if that is what you want to do. Great people on here who will let you know the ups and downs of the new platform trucks. Overall they are good trucks but do a good test drive before you buy, maybe see if they will let you take it home for the weekend. The major complaint is with vibrations, even though it probably only effects a small number of them you still need to do a good test drive on the interstate. I looked hard at a RAM before I bought my 3rd silverado but it was near impossible to find one with decent options in an extended cab with a bench seat.

Welcome! What draws you to GMC over the Ram? Just curious.

Thanks. To be honest, I think it mostly has to do with looks and the new upgrades to 2016 GMC. I like my current truck but it drives big mainly because it is big (Crewcab with 6.5 foot bed) and I miss some of the amenities (leather, dual air, etc) on my last truck. I am not convinced but I just wanted join and learn about the GMC. I may miss the MPG on my current Ecodiesel especially if I went with the 6.2L. I don't help any with my heavy foot.

Welcome!

If you tell me stuff about your Ram, I tell you stuff about my Sierra

Curious how many miles on your Ram?

Real world mpg's?

Sounds like a deal. I like the Ram. The Ecodiesel is a good engine and is quicker than I thought it would be coming off of a red light or merging onto the highway. If you are already at speed and need to punch it then that is when you miss the horsepower. The engine matched with the 8 speed transmission does a really nice job. My truck average MPG right now is 21.6 with mostly driving in the hills of western NC. I have Michelin AT2 tires that are slightly taller than the OEM (275/65/20 vs. 275/60/20) and much heavier. I have 3.92 rear end and I also carry a front hitch mounted bike rack ALL of the time and many times have a bike on it. When I have traveled to Greenville, SC I average about 26 MPG and then lose some when I climb back up to Waynesville/Asheville area. I haven't had any mechanical problems so far. I ordered and then received in November of last year and have just over 23,000 miles so far. Anything else? What about your Sierra? Do you have the 6.2L?

Not bad gas mileage! I don't live far from you and drive in the same terrain and mine with the 5.3 and 3.42 gears is at 19 mpg (20 in the summer and 18 in the winter). I'm I'll lose another mile or so per gallon when I put on heavier tires and take off the air dam.
