New Rear Shocks at 55k - Check Yours

Just installed new rear shocks on my '13 that has 55k miles on it. I had been noticing kind of a bouncy ride. Upon replacement, it became clear that the factory ones were TOAST. No rebound, easily compressable by hand. I had the Z83 "solid, smooth ride" shocks from the factory, I replaced them with Delco 540-634, which is the OEM Z85 "handling/trailering" shock package. Hopefully they last me a little longer. The ride is SOOOOOO much improved. You don't realize how bad it's gotten until you replace them.

 

Front struts are next. I'm still on the fence of trying to decide between the Monroe Quick-Strut or sticking with OEM and getting the Delcos and fooling around with spring compressors. Anybody have any experience with the Monroe unit?

 

In conclusion, I can't believe how blown these shocks were for only having 55k on them...maybe that's normal. By the way, NO signs of leakage from the defective, old shocks. Just a bouncy ride.

I just did mine at 60k. What a world of difference my factory ones where toast. I upgraded to bilsteins all the way around well worth the investment.

You do it yourself with spring compressor in the front?

I took it to a shop and had them do the fronts. No desire to mess compressors.

For street driving, Monroe is enough. If you are planning to go off the road, Bilstein's are the way to go.
