I'm buying a 14 silverado, but dont like the 4.2 inch screen. Has anybody had good results replacing it? I would want something bigger with navigation at the least. I'm aware of the Alpine X008U, but I've heard on another forum that it doesnt fully support the 2014 Silverados steering wheel controls yet,

Has anybody done this or added another unit?

I don't think anyone has gone to aftermarket. I still have my 4.3 screen but my tablet is sitting on top as my head unit. Better options for entertainment. You can upgrade to the big screen but is expensive.

I just saw the link you posted and honestly that's way to expensive. My tablet had it since released ($300). 2 extra 4.3 stereo units. Got one for $60 on Craigslist and the other for $19 on eBay so I can modified them. Just ran a wire to charge it, got a hotspot with 5gb 4glte and unlimited data after that for $10 a month. Best bang for my buck. Oh since my truck is a work Truck, I added on the right side of the steering wheel a Bluetooth remote to control the tablets music ($30) 1bf21a9e47ee76cf7fbb82d830478cf5.jpg

If you get a tablet with Internet on it then you can also add a back up camera. You will have to create an Internet access for the camera and it will transmit via wifi on the tablet.

Yeah, the Alpine unit is waaaay too expensive, but I didnt know if anybody had done the replacement with any other unit or not. As for your tablet concept, I really want something to replace the screen in general! But alas, looks like the time is not yet there. I may just look into upgrading to the 8" screen with nav. Still pricey, but at least it would be a clean look.

I did it on my Regular Cab, money well spent.

Vader, does it include Nav? Can you explain how you did it? From what I understand its merely swapping out the units+ dash and replacing that HMI module behind the glove box.

I did it to my truck what I did was get the screen from a wrecked truck and contacted mvi for a hmi they programmed one and sent it out and I did the swap in 45 minutes

I went with the IO5 unit that doesn't have the built in nav. I had the IO6 with built in nav in my 2014 LTZ and found that I still relied on google maps, more so now that you can choose to have google maps voice prompts play through the speakers.

I do miss the weather app for some reason, as silly as that may seem.

There is about a $200-300 price difference between the IO5 and IO6 when upgrading from the IO4, so if you want the factory nav get it up front or it will cost you like $600 later on which is about the price for the IO5 to IO6 upgrade.

You also need to make sure that the 4.3 that you are replacing is the IO4 unit and not the IO3, I think the IO3 can be replaced but it may be even more expensive. Replacing the IO4 just means swapping the screen and bezel and the HMI module.

As other have said, you can get the units second hand and have the HMI reprogrammed, there are a couple different avenues for getting that done.
