Cruise control problems

I have a 2007 1500 z71 5.3 crew cab I'm having problems with my cruise control to where when I hit that it does not activate it I have to turn the cruise control on and off 15 - 20 times and sometimes it will activate then or I have to turn the truck off completely to activate it does anyone else have any problems like this or suggestions of how to fix it
