I know this is a gm forum, but I am going to be looking at a 67' Dodge charger with my friend, and I was wandering if anyone here knew of anything notorious to look for, i.e, how the valve covers on a ford 2.9 are prone to leak, or the tailgates on broncos are prone to rust. Anythng to help my friend decide if it is worth the $8500... and anything that we coudl use to lower the price

Here are the specs that I know of...

67' Charger- I believe it has 70k on it...

69' 440- I think it has 35k on it...

69' auto trans- 35k I think...

new "antique" paint job- done in 98'...

new interior- just finished it...

Any help/ websites will be great, I am going to look at it next week probably on Monday or Tues, I will keep ya'll informed...

Thanks,

You can ask  at www.moparts.com and get more replies. But, check the 1/4's, trunk floor, front and rear floor pans, inner fender(mainly around the hood hindges), frame rails, cowl for rust. The look around the windshield and the rear window for any signs of water. Check inside as well. If it has/had a vinyl top, really get in and look at things. Mopars are natoriuos for rusting in the windshield and rear window channels.

Ask how much oil the 440 uses. If any. But, 440's, 440-6packs and Hemis. all have a tendencey to have oil leaks and burn oil. check around the vavle covers and the block for and sings of oil leaks.

As for the trans. You got your choice of a 904 or a 727. I dont know which is best behind the 440. I have heard some people say the 904 and some say the 727. But, for me if its not a 4spd, it soon will be.
