Rear Diff Fluid capacities

Hey ya'll I did some searches and and even looked at the article here on the site about changing the rear diff fluid but I still cant find the actual capacity of the rear end. I have an 03 1/2 ton 4x4 I know they say 5/8" to 1 & 5/8" for the fluid level but it is hard to measure. Is it just under 2.5 quarts, or closer to 3 quarts? I only have the owners manual that doesnt tell you so if anyone has an actual service manual and knows the figure I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

I just changed mine and used somewhere between the 2.5-3 quart range. You really just have to measure it best you can. The "Guides" section in the menu to your left has an article that discusses this issue. Check it out.

 

**By the way, why am I having so much trouble posting a picture. I tried to put one in under my login name and I have tried to post in a message without luck. I go to the properties of my picture on my webpage and use that URL as the link to the image. Is that correct?

You'll need to buy 3 quarts and then just keep adding and measuring, I am sure you can get all of 2 quarts in without measuring!

I would say about 2.8 qts.  Buy three and you will have a little extra.
