I have an 04 Chevy with the 6.0 in it and the other day I clicked the 4h button to go into 4x4 and it just flashed for around a min or two and would lock in but I heard it click in my front diff like always but it stayed in rwd, it does the same for 4l. I took the fuse out and left it out for a min and that did nothing so ive read some things on different forums talking about switches going bad but there all for different situations just seein if anyone would be able to help trouble shoot this with me im stumped.

Its the switch. Buy a new one from gm parts direct or your local dealer. They will need the VIN number. Snap off the dash bezel and remove and unplug the switch. Should not take longer than 10 minutes.

Got my 4x4 switch off RockAuto - still experiencing issues...not sure if it's the fact that the switch says "made in China" on it or not. Don't go cheap, get the better one.

It isn't always the switch, it could be the encoder motor or sensor as well. To know for sure, you have to follow the diagnostic code with the trouble chart.

It's not much good without the code, the troubleshooting varies for the different codes. I'll try to find an example if I can remember what my code was

Did you check both the 4wd and the ATC fuse? The 4wd one is for the front diff and the ATC or whatever it's called on yours will be for the transfer case.
