16' All Terrain 6.2L -First Impressions

Ive seen several posts already about 2016 trucks hitting the streets. After having a Silverado on order since September, with no TPW, I decided to make the switch to the only other 6.2 in the area, a Sierra. Several of you have made comments about the lack of vibration at speed, the headlight(s) brightness, and aluminum or metal control arms. Here are my thoughts after putting around 150 miles on her.

 

Vibration

-While my 2014 was plagued with the ever-popular 68-74mph vibration, this truck has very little, to no vibration at highway speeds.

 

MyLink/ Intellilink

-Compared to 14' which was sluggish and seemed to perform with the power of an Apple IIGS, the updated system is smooth and quick.

 

Headlights

-I haven't noticed much change in overall brightness on the road, but because the LEDs are pure white, anything reflective seems to be brighter and stand out immediately.

 

Control Arms

-This truck came with steel upper and lower control arms, not aluminum.

 

8 Speed Transmission

-Smooth as glass compared to my 6speed, although there is some getting used to as it upshifts very quickly.

 

6.2L

-Been waiting for the 6.2 for some years now, while the numbers in quickness may show that the 5.3 is close to its big brother. You can feel the torque, and the stock exhaust is much louder and has a deeper grunt when you get on it than expected.... not complaining.

 

Other notes: While there are only minor differences between the Silverado and Sierra on the interior and exterior, they are noticeable. Im a Chevy guy through and through, having only driven Silverados for the last 10 years, but am very pleased with this truck. The Silverado looks sleek and sexy, the Sierra tough and bold, both though look good. What seperates the two in my opinion is in the details, things like the use of real aluminum in the trim panels, makes a difference. With that being said I think anybody would be happy with either truck and appreciate the fact that GM seems to have finally worked the kinks out of this generation truck.

Congrats. Sierras are awesome trucks, I love the look. What trim level was your Silverado and what trim level is your Sierra?

Don't want to know what you paid for it (that would be crass) but were there any discounts? Any money tacked upon the MSRP to inflate dealer profit? Or are they all selling right at MSRP? What's the story there?

Dealers by me are advertising $7,000-$9,000 off already.

Very Nice. I too am a Chevy guy, but loved the look of the 2014 Sierra when they came out.

 

Honestly, I hated the Chevy's at first, but the Z71 with the black grill insert like your previous truck has grown on me.

 

I think, much like Pontiac used to be (I miss Pontiac), the GMC versions are designed to be a touch "nicer" than the Chevy. Similarly, we had a Cavalier that was traded in for a Sunfire, and little details we nicer on the Pontiac. Maybe less with this generation of truck, but still little details like you said.

My 14 was an LTZ Z71. Great truck minus the usual complaints everyone else has already experienced. As far as the new one goes, the deal was as follows...

 

Trade In: 46k, needed front brakes and tires.

$30,800

 

MSRP: $53,780

Price Paid: $51,280

 

They also threw in a tonneau cover to complete the deal. Can't complain, they made a little money and I feel I got a good deal for what's proving to be a pretty awesome machine.

I drove a crew short bed All-Terrian yesterday and like you it had steel control arms.

 

Kinda odd since the double cab All-terrians get AL.

 

The one I drove was a 5.3 8-speed, ran good! Would flat rip the tires on WOT take off.

Mine is a double cab... One of the first things I checked was the control arms. I was expecting aluminum but to my surprise they weren't....
