courtesy door lights

Hi guys I'm new to the forum and have a question someone might be able the help me with. I have a 2004 base sierra 1500 ext. Cab w/4.3. Sence its a base model it didn't come with any power options none. So it didn't come with courtesy door lights. I bought some but am having trouble finding a hot wire that is off while the door is close and of course open when the door is open so that the light comes on. I tried to hook them up to the dome light wiring but when the dome light comes on when you open the door the courtesy light goes off. These lights are projection lights that show an GMC emblem on the ground when the door opens. They have 1 hot wire 1 ground wire. Any help and I would be greatful. So they are on when u close the door but cut off when u open the door?

Maybe have the wires swapped up.. neg to pos and pos to neg?

did you ground the light in the door, and is it a led light in there?

Yes its a led light. Also tried the reverse neg and the pos wire thing and the ground is to the door.

Hmmm wish I knew what to do.. I hope to see an answer cause it looks like a nice add on for sure

sounds like your on the wrong wire for the dome for the power
