2005 Thermostat opening temp

Recommended Posts

I think my truck is taking a bit longer to warm up in the morning, so I bought a new thermostat from the dealer. I notice it is rated at 86C, which is lower than I expected given the temp gauge normally sits just under 100C, somewhere in the 90's. I assume everyone else sits just under the center mark as well under normal conditions?

Yesterday I was sitting in the truck while it idled for 10 minutes or so, I had gone for a short drive but not enough to reach operating temp. In that 10 minutes of idling the gauge didn't come up appreciably at all, it sat right at the big dash between 75C and 100C (87.5C), right around where the thermostat would be rated to open. I don't recall this happening in the past, but I've not sat idling much in this truck to have a solid reference. The temperature outside was under the freezing mark.

Anybody else notice the truck not warm up above the first big dash very quickly when idling in sub zero temps with the truck not fully warmed up beforehand?

Thanks;
