K&N FIPK

I have a 99 with the 4.8 liter.  I am looking to get some bolt on power from it.  I am used to driving a truck with the 6.0 in it and when I get in mine, the 4.8 feels like a 4 cylinder.  I was thinking about adding a K&N FIPK.  Does anyone have one of these?  Did you notice a gain in power?

i've been checking myself. i can directly answere you, but the 5.3 is supposed to gain 20-25 hp and 20-25 torque.

Nope.

 

When I bought my FIPK, my HP gain was 7hp.  They included a dyno of the 5.3 before & after the FIPK being installed.  The graph showed a 7hp (max) after the install.  No numbers on the torque though...I would have to estimate the tq numbers to be a bit higher...maybe around 15-20.  The only reason I say this is because when I use cruise control, my truck no longer downshifts on certain grades when its set right on 70mph.  My $0.02.

I did notice a small gain in power, but that was mostly in the higher RPM range.  Hp increases in lower ranges is small, if any.  Hp gains are most noticeable when you have a good intake like the FIPK, headers, and a good exhaust so your engine breaths well.

I also noticed only minimal gains from th FIPK.  It does pull a little harder on the top end and is much louder.  You can really hear that engine roar when you get on it.  Like mentioned above, I think with headers, high flow cat and free flow exhaust, you would actually feel more.  As heavy as these trucks are, you need to get 20+ RW horsepower before you will FEEL a big difference.  The claims of 20-25 horsepower are a little off in my opinion.
