Bought a key fob for the 2000 blazer . It does not work .

The numbers on the back are all the same as my originals .

Is there some kind of programing needing to be done to this ?

If so how do I go about doing it ?

Already tried changing the battery so its not that :loser:

Im not used to this power bull$hit

Well of course it doesn't work.

Would you want someone to be able to walk into a GM dealership, but a remote and then walk up and unlock your truck? Probably not.

Look in your owners manual, the procedure for programming new fobs is often in there. If not its in the FSM. Some 1996+ vehicles require a GM Tech II to program new remotes.

You don't need a tech II to do it. Hang on, let me dig through some old files and see if I can find how to do it. It is a matter of turning your key on and off a few times and then holding down the door lock.

I will look for it and get back to you.

Here, Give this a try. Just remember, if you have more than one Key FOB you will have to reprogram both of them at the same time, becuase when you reprogram one of them, it deactivates the other one. So you just have to do both of them at the same time.

1. Start with the ignition OFF, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel. Turn ignition key ON, OFF, ON, OFF. Release power unlock button on the door panel. The locks will cycle once.

2. Hold down the key FOB lock and unlock buttons for 15 seconds . The locks will again cycle once.

3. Repeat step #2 for each additional key FOB.

4. Turn the ignition on to exit the key FOB programming mode. Programming is now complete.

Let me know how you make out. If that doesn't work, I am pretty sure I have another procedure some where.

I think this is almost the same as what I just posted. But this is the actual procedure for your vehicle.

IMPORTANT: Different keyless entry systems are used on General Motors vehicles. The parts are not interchangeable even though the parts may appear to be similar. Observe the back of the transmitter in order to properly identify the system. On 2000 SIT pickups and utilities, use a transmitter identified with GM/UTA preceding the part number.

With the driver door closed, hold down the power unlock button on the door panel.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner in order to indicate that the receiver is in the programming mode:

6.1. Locking the doors

6.2. Unlocking the doors

IMPORTANT: All extra transmitters must be programmed at this time. When a new transmitter is programmed, the old transmitters will be deactivated.

Hold down the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter until the remote control door lock receiver will respond in the following manner:

7.1. Locking the doors.

7.2. Unlocking the doors.

Repeat step 7 for each additional transmitter.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

No problem. I have been helped many times by people on this site. Glad to return the favor.
