front emblem removal

it involves some careful, light drilling into the plastic at the right spots in order to drill out the plastic rivets - usually you can SLOWLY drill out one or two and the letter will lift right out...there are actually 6-8 plastic posts per letter....you can then press/3M tape in your new inserts, whatever color they may be....

Ummm, maybe your grille is different than my all terrain one, but my emblem just pops off. Used a putty knife and it's only held on by little tabs. Push down on the tabs and it pops right off. Paint it and pop it back on. Done.

interesting - you're correct, they are different - I special ordered my grille from the factory to have it color matched - it looks like they did different things to different logos - never knew that! Here's the instructions I used:

hey, at least the back ones are definitely the same no matter if you have a normal SLT or an All terrain!

Did you have your factory grill painted? Looks greats.^

gm option - colored grille - had to order the truck to get it tho instead of picking off of the lot....

+1 to TXtruk description, I've removed both the interior red letters, and the entire emblem including the chrome surround.

In the both cases, it is easier if not required to remove the grill to unclip the full emblem and frame from the grill. There are 8 or so tabs that need to be bent carefully to release them from the grill without breaking a tab.

Like TX, my truck grill red letters are bonded to the chrome surround in 6-7 areas where plastic posts from the back of the red letters were bonded/melted into holes in the chrome backing. Best way to separate them is to drill or break those bonded posts from the back of the chrome emblem surround.

I first painted the red letters black and epoxied them back to the chrome surround. Then just caved and bought a billet replacement that bolts to the grill and replaces the entire emblem and chrome surround. Either way, looks great.

this sounds great - can you post a pic when you get a chance?

^ Will post pics later, currently the rig has a bunch of winter road mung covering everything.

Overall, I debadged the two "4X4", three "Sierra", and one "SLT" from OEM kit, and replaced grille and tailgate GMC OEM badges with American Brother Designs black on chrome billet grille and tailgate badges from below link.

Note the tailgate billet is black with chrome surround and has 3m adhesive to apply, the front billet is also black and chrome but bolts to the grille. There are also insert versions so take note which design you are checking. They are beefy and look OEM, not cheap though:

I also went through two different new badges for the 6.2L, the first was black on chrome but the black inserts popped out in cold weather. Then replaced with these polished stainless 6.2L Corvette badges, one each where the 4x4 badges were located above the front wheel wells, and one on the tailgate:

I think they are actually the same and you just removed the inner gmc where as I removed the chrome surround with it as well. No drilling required and took all of a minute to get off.

aaaah

aaaah, got it, that makes sense to me...if you don't need the chrome surround, that sounds easier for sure
